What happens when the IRS revokes the 501(c)(3) nonprofit status?

Friends,

When the IRS revokes a nonprofit's 501(c)(3) status, it ...

  • does not have 501(c)(3) status anymore.
  • cannot offer community services anymore.
  • cannot accept donations, grant funds, or any other money.
  • is listed as revoked in the IRS public database.

To maintain 501(c)(3) status, nonprofit leaders must file the appropriate Form 990 Information Return every year by May 15, 2026*.

Unfortunately, some nonprofit leaders think that if they are not offering services or raising money, they don't need to file a Form 990. That is absolutely FALSE!

The IRS Exempt Organization Division mandates that all 501(c)(3) nonprofit leaders file the appropriate Form 990 every year, NO MATTER WHAT!

If you fail to file the Form 990 for three consecutive years, the IRS automatically revokes the nonprofit's 501(c)(3) status. Then, you would need to complete the entire application process and pay a fee to reinstate the status.

FILE THE FORM 990N!

Your nonprofit organization is eligible to file the Form 990N (ePostcard) if it generated $50,000 or less last year.

Since 2020, I've helped nonprofit leaders file the Form 990N (ePostcard) to retain their nonprofit's 501(c)(3) status with 100 percent submission approvals.

May 15 is the filing deadline!

If you would like to use my services to file your nonprofit's Form 990N (ePostcard), then select the button below to complete a short eligibility survey to confirm that your nonprofit generated between zero and $50,000 last year.

Please complete the short survey immediately! The filing deadline is May 15.
